Small Businesses Lose Out To Big Movie Productions

Massachusetts gives out tax credits to attract Hollywood to film in the state. Since 2006, $327 million was spent on luring film crews to Massachusetts. The state loses money when movies are shot here, but why should small businesses suffer as well?

John Travolta was recently filming in Boston for his upcoming film “The Forger.” While shooting in a local pub, there was staging outside with trucks, equipment and spectators. All this commotion took a toll on local businesses. Walk-in customers couldn’t make it to the doors, regulars canceled their appointments and now small business owners are stating they weren’t properly warned to adjust their business accordingly.
